荷兰高校共分为三类：研究型大学，应用科学大学和国际教育学院。
研究型大学 (Research University)
研究型大学以学术研究为导向，目前荷兰共有14所研究型大学，提供管理，农业，医学，土木工程等众多专业课程。研究型大学的学士课程一般为三年，要求中国申请者具备大学本科一年的学习经历，毕业后可获得国际认可的学士学位，该学位同时被中国教育部认可。硕士课程为期一年，一年半或两年，要求中国申请者具备国家认可的学士学位，毕业后可获得国际认可的文学硕士学位，该学位同时被中国教育部认可。
所有研究型大学均获授权颁授全国最高学术学位，即博士学位。博士学习重在研究，要求基于原创研究的论文必须公开发表。博士学习一般为四-五年，学习期间荷兰政府会提供学习补助金，毕业后可获得国际认可的博士学位，该学位同时被中国教育部认可。
应用科学大学 (University of Applied Sciences)
应用科学大学注重知识的应用与实践，目前荷兰共有50多所应用科学大学，超过60%的荷兰人毕业于应用科学大学。应用科学大学包括一般院校和美术、表演艺术、新闻或教师培训的专门院校。应用科学大学的学士课程一般为四年，要求中国申请者具备高中毕业证和大学录取成绩，毕业后可获得国际认可的学位，该学位同时被中国教育部认可。应用科学大学也提供硕士项目，具体要求各不相同。
国际教育学院 (Institutes of International Education)
除了上述两类学院，荷兰还开设了一些从事国际教育的院校，如联和国教科文-水教育学院。这类学院，提供学士学位以上的专业课程，针对从事需要高度专业知识的行业的人群。
