Oct 29, 2009
The Orange Tulip Scholarship (OTS) Awarding Ceremony 2009/2010 was successfully held at the Royal Dutch Embassy on Saturday, 20th June 2009. This event was organized by CSCSE-Nuffic Neso China, and supported by the Royal Dutch Embassy. Over 70 people attended the event, including OTS sponsors, scholarship winners and their companions, partner educational agents, Media and Embassy staff.
The original intention for Neso China to launch the OTS in year 2008 is to create more opportunities for talented Chinese students to study in the Netherlands and make the Dutch higher education accessible to more Chinese students. Compared with other scholarships offered by Dutch organizations, the OTS programme is a special one, only open to Chinese qualified students. Concerning the establishment of the OTS programme, Neso China collaborates closely with the Dutch Embassy, especially the economics department and has received strong support not only from Dutch higher education institutions, but also from the China-based Dutch companies.
For the academic year 2009/2010, a remarkable progress has been witnessed: a sponsorship of 4 million RMB provided by 15 sponsors, was available to finance 22 excellent Chinese students to study in the Netherlands. This has been regarded as a very successful start for the OTS in its initial year.
On the Awarding Ceremony, Mr. Jacques Van Vilet, director of Neso China, concluded the development of the OTS in the past year and expressed his expectation for next year in his welcome speech.
Mr. Eric van Kooij, the Science & Technology Counsellor of the Royal Dutch Embassy, gave a greeting speech, on behalf of the Ambassador. He delivered his high appreciation toward the OTS and briefly introduced the scheduled PhD programme initiated by the Innovation Platform of the Netherlands. “We believe that the OTS will help create bridges between our both countries, which will be beneficial for better social and cultural understanding, but also for better bilateral trade & investment relations, and of course exchanges and cooperation in science, technology and innovation.” said by Mr. van Kooij in the speech.
There are many emotional moments during the awarding. A lot of winners conveyed their gratitude to the sponsors, parents and Neso China. For them, the OTS is not a simple financial support, but also kind of inspiration which stimulate them to forward. It strengthens their determination to work hard in the Netherlands, exploring their potential and realizing their personal value.
