Southwest University (SWU) is a comprehensive and national key university under Ministry of Education in China. It has entered the Project 211 universities gaining preferential support in their construction and development from the Central Government of China. SWU has established bilatral exchange and cooperation relationships with universities and research institutions in more than 30 countries and regions around the world. At present, the total number of the studnets at SWU has reached more than 80, 000 and the total number of full-time students is about 40,000, including students working for master and doctor's degrees, and many international students are taking course in bachelor, masters, doctor's degree and advanced studies. SWU is situated in Chongqing Municipality which is the center city in the West Development of China. SWU began international enrollment in the 1950s. It is a university specified by the Ministry of Education to receive overseas students who are granted the Chinese Government Scholarship. In order to attract more overseas students and put a premium on the students who are excellent in study and moral character, the government of Chongqing has set up a "Mayor Scholarship" and SWU has set up an "Excellent International Students Scholarship", in addition, SWU would donate a share of "Plan for Integrative Insurance" for every long-term international student.
Programs for International Students
SWU now offers 40 national key disciplines, 66 doctoral programs. It has 9 postdoctoral programs, 159 master's programs and 97 undergraduate programs. SWU is famous for normal education and agriculture education. Pedagogics, and agriculture have distinct predominance. Research of Silkworm Genomics is on top in the world. General psychology and Pedagogics have reached advanced national level in China. At present, the number of the international students in the following majors is top: Chinese Language and Literature, Predagogics, Psychology, Economics, Research of the Ethnics Minorities in China, Life Sciences and so on.
