Introduction Donghua University

Donghua University, one of the leading universities in China directly under the Ministry of Education,is jointly rebuilt and managed by both the Ministry of Education and the Government of Shanghai Municipality. It is also one of the State-key universities on the“211 Development Project”( the Project of entering the 21st century to build one hundred universities out of 1000 universities in China ), enjoying a wide range of development priority supported by the central government.

Donghua University is situated in the west of Shanghai city adjacent to famous Hong Qiao Economic Development Zone. It covers an area of about 700 Chinese Mu, including the main campus, the Changning Rd. campus, and Wu Xi campus in Wu Xi city, Jiang Su Province. To meet the needs of ever-growing expansion of the University, a new campus is now under construction. The University grew out of the previous East-China Textile Institute of Science and Technology founded in 1951 and changed its name into China Textile University ( CTU ) in 1985 to adapt to the development of China's textile industry as well as the University itself. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the University changed its name once again to Donghua University ( DHU ) in August 1999, which indicates that it has developed from a single disciplinary educational institution to a comprehensive one.
