Yunnan University (YU) is located by the side of the center of Kunming. Kunming is reputed as "The City of Eternal Spring" because of its mild weather without intense heat in summer and without bitter cold in winter. Kunming is one of the most famous history, cultural and suitable city for people to live in. There are more than 20 universities with strong learning atmosphere in Kunming. The price of living is very low in Kunming. Yunnan Unviersity, founded in 1923, is one of the oldest comprehensive universities in Southwest China. Yunnan University is the only one local university that enjoys "211 Project" membership in Yunnan Province. Currently Yunnan University has exchange relationships with over 90 universities and institutions in more than 22 countries and regions. YU now has over 42,000 full-time students. It has 17 colleges, 7 research institutes, 78 undergraduate specialties, 2 state key disciplines in Ethnology Ecology and 27 provincial key disciplines.
YU is comprised of 3 authorized to grant first degree of doctoral degrees, 50 authorized to grant second degree of doctoral degrees, 4 post doctoral programs stations, 1 enterprise affairs station for post doctoral studies, 151 Master's degree programs, 4 authorized to grant Master's degree programs of MPA, MBA, Law, and Engineering. The College of International Students (CIS), a special institution under Yunnan University, is in charge of Chinese Language and Chinese culture teaching for international students, called the Center of Chinese for Foreign Students before. The purpose to set up CIS is to enhance the international exchange and to improve the teaching level and quality of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. There are more than 500 foreign students from more than 30 countries studying in CIS each term. CIS provides various programs.
