The Awarding Ceremony of the Orange Tulip Scholarship (OTS) 2009/2010 has been successfully held at the Royal Dutch Embassy in Beijing. This event was organized by Netherlands Education Support Office (Neso) China and was strongly supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China. Over 70 people attended the event.

Mr. Jacques van Vliet, Director of Neso China, gave a welcome speech on the awarding ceremony. He informed on the developments of the OTS in its initial year: 16 universities and companies gathered over 400.000 euro and enabled 25 top talents from China to follow master courses in the Netherlands in all kinds of study fields. In the coming months more companies and universities are expected to join the programme.

Mr. Eric van Kooij, Science & Technology Counsellor of the Royal Dutch Embassy delivered a greeting speech on the ceremony, on behalf of the Ambassador. Mr. Van Kooij expressed his high appreciation towards OTS and also briefly introduced the coming PhD programme, with its pilot in China, initiated by the Innovation Platform of the Netherlands. Soon a large number of Chinese PhD candidates will be selected for their research in the Netherlands. Neso China will contribute in the out roll of this initiative.

Scholarship winners and their companions attended the event. They came from all over China. Most winners delivered their gratitude to the OTS sponsors, parents and Neso China. Almost all sponsors were present and handed the scholarships, in the form of a nicely framed document, to their selected winners. Emotional moments were experienced throughout the ceremony.

During the celebration drink, over 10 interviews were done by Chinese radio, TV and online media with sponsors, students, the Dutch Embassy and Neso China.

All participants were very satisfied with the OTS Awarding Ceremony, organized by Neso China, according to the questionnaire survey at the end of the event. People will be connected through a special OTS chapter in the online Chinese alumni network, wherever they are in the future!
