ETS launched TOEFL scholarship for Chinese students

From 5th Nov 2009, ETS launched the TOEFL scholarship program for students who are going to study overseas with TOEFL scores in 2010. Forty USD 1,500 scholarships will be awarded to winners.

ETS, located in Princeton, New Jersey, USA (ETS Princeton), has developed a scholarship program to recognize outstanding students in China who will begin their overseas studies in 2010. The program will recognize students with high academic achievement who have demonstrated leadership skills, innovative ideas and an outstanding ability to communicate in English.

In total, forty $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to selected TOEFL test takers who are planning to begin undergraduate or postgraduate study outside of mainland China in 2010. Awards will be issued by ETS Princeton to the attending institutions to assist students with their tuition expenses.

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

  • currently be living in China and be a Chinese citizen
  • begin undergraduate or postgraduate study outside of mainland China in 2010 and be able to provide an acceptance letter from the attending university by 15 May 2010
  • have a valid TOEFL score
  • hold a grade point average of 80 or higher on a 100-point scale

Application Process

  1. Take the TOEFL test and get your scores. It is recommended that you take the test by the end of January 2010 so your scores are available well before the 31 March deadline.
  2. Download and print the application form. Please fill in the form completely, including the personal statement, essay and other required material.
  3. Collect all required materials outlined in the application form, including the original copy of the academic and examination transcripts from your educational institutions, as well as certification of your extra-curricular activities or other awards.
  4. Write your TOEFL Registration number on all documents in order for your application file to be considered complete.
  5. Send your entire application file, including all the items listed above, to ETS China (a subsidiary company of ETS Princeton that is processing applications) by 31 March.

  6. If you are selected as one of the 120 scholarship finalists, you will be required to send an e-mail to ETS by 15 May 2010 with a PDF of the acceptance letter from your attending university.
