The Netherlands, is the third best higher education system in the world, based on the number of institutions in the top 200 of the THE ranking!
In the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 4 Dutch universities are ranked in the top 200 and 8 in the top 200. With this, the Dutch higher education system holds the third place in terms of the number of universities in the top 200 per billion dollars spent.
The THE ranking is one of the most comprehensive international rankings. This is because it uses indicators related to research, citations, industry income, international outlook and also teaching. The high ranking of the Dutch higher education system thus clearly shows its excellence and world class status.
Phil Baty, Editor of the THE Ranking, said to following about the high performance on the Netherlands: “This has been a brilliant year for the Netherlands in the world university rankings. Its 12 institutions in the top 200 is an extraordinary achievement given the size of the country – making the Netherlands’ a major global higher education powerhouse. When its number of world class universities is scaled against it’s the size of its economy (Gross Domestic Product), the Netherlands is second only to Hong Kong in the higher education power list”.
